The protagonist learns very quickly that war isn’t romantic, and even though he does his duty as best he can and does what he thinks is right for his country, he never really feels like a hero.
This book will make you think twice about glorifying war heroes or noble causes; instead, it shows us how small-minded we can be when we think of ourselves above others because they don’t share our beliefs or interests.
And how much harm this kind of thinking can do both during wartime and afterward when war has ended but prejudice still exists between groups that once fought together against common enemies.

This book investigates the reasons why some societies advanced and others did not. It explains how certain geographic, economic, and political factors led to the development of certain civilizations.
