Start Building Your Own Localsearch Website

Your first step is to make sure your business is listed on Google My Business, which allows you to add or modify information about your business and connect with users through a special profile. You can add photos, videos, hours of operation, and more.

When you have your website and it’s time for optimization, you should use plugins that can help optimize the website automatically in order not to lose time manually optimizing pages one by one.

Another option would be outsourcing local SEO services from a professional agency or company that specializes in this area.

They will work as an extension of your team providing advice on how to improve rankings from local search results as well as providing support after launch day has passed (e.g., monitoring progress).

Do Some Local Keyword Research

Now that you’ve got an idea of what keywords to target, the next step is to find out which ones are most relevant for your business.

Several tools can help you with this. A few of my favorites include:

  • Google Keyword Planner (
  • SEMrush keyword tool (
  • Google Trends tool (
  • Moz keyword tool (

Optimize Your Website Quotes And Testimonials

Your business and your services are unique. If you’re lucky, people will pay money to use them but if you want to convert those visitors into customers, it helps to show off your credibility.

Testimonials and case studies about the success of past clients can help build trust for potential new ones.

One of the easiest ways to do this is by using testimonials on your website’s landing page or website quote/testimonial pages.

These are short bits written by previous customers that demonstrate how great you are at what you do and they’re super powerful when paired with an image (or even better: video) of someone saying how amazing they feel after working with you!

The best way we’ve found is having a dedicated page on the site where all these testimonials are collected together (ideally sorted by date).

This makes it easy for people who visit again in future months/years to see what has been said about their experience working with us before making their decision whether or not they should give us another chance at helping them out too.”

Get Your Google My Business Page Set Up

You will want to take full advantage of Google My Business, which is a free service that allows you to manage your business information on the web. It’s important because it helps customers find you in local searches and gives them a quick way to connect with your company.

You can set up your Google My Business page by visiting and following these steps:

  • Verify that you own or work at the business listed by entering its address into the search bar at the top right (or enter its name if there is no location associated with it.)
  • Add photos of the inside and outside of your location so customers get familiar with what they’ll see if they visit in person
  • Add a video tour so potential visitors can get a better sense of what makes this place special for them

Create A Facebook Page For Your Business

You’ll want to create a Facebook page for your business. Make sure it’s easy to find and use the same name as your website, logo, and profile picture.

If you don’t have one yet, we recommend creating a Facebook Page as soon as possible.

Use Schema Markup To Help Optimize Your Site

Schema markup is a collection of structured data that can be used by search engines to find and display information about your site. It’s similar to microdata, but it also includes additional predefined types.

You should be using schema markup on all pages of your website because it adds valuable information for Google and other search engines to use when displaying results in their search results pages (SERPs).

The more useful content you have on the internet, the higher your site will rank in organic search results (and this is true no matter what industry you operate in).

Fill Out The Important Fields In Yoast’s Local SEO Plugin Settings

Once you’ve installed the plugin, activate it and go to the “Settings” tab. You’ll see a list of options with fields and drop-down menus that allow you to tell Yoast about your business. Make sure these are all filled out correctly for each page of your website:

Business Name

This should be consistent across all pages of your site. A common mistake is using only one tagline or title in a header, but not making it consistent on every page (like “Acme Pest Control’s Blog”). The more information you can provide here, the better!

This can be entered in several different ways: street address (123 Main Street), city/town/village name + postal code + state; street address + ZIP code; latitude/longitude coordinates; business category / keywords (i.e., “pest control”); etc. It’s important that whatever method you choose is consistent across all pages too!

Phone number(s) – Same rules apply here as above consistency is key!

Submit A Sitemap Of Your Website To Google Search Console

Once you’ve got your website optimized for local search, it’s time to submit a sitemap of your site to Google Search Console. Simply navigate to the “Sitemaps” tab in the left-hand navigation panel and click “Create Sitemap.” You will then be prompted with a few questions:

  • Are you using an XML sitemap? If so, choose “XML Sitemap.”
  • What format is your XML file? If you’re not sure what format it should be in, select “I don’t know.”
  • Do you want Googlebot (Google’s crawler) to check this URL every day or only when it crawls the root directory of my site?

Choose daily checking if possible; otherwise, leave it blank because there isn’t much use in checking pages that aren’t being indexed anyway!

Show Off Your Real Reviews On Your Website

If you have reviews from Google and other review sites, show them off! Display them on your website in a way that makes sense for your business. For example:

  • Show off your real reviews from Google, Yelp, and other review sites.
  • Show customers that you are proud of your work by showcasing the best projects from the last few years (e.g., 2014-2017).
  • Showcase some of the most recent work done by your company so that visitors can see what’s new and exciting about it (e.g., a new collection/project launched within the last 6 months).

Creating a website from scratch that ranks well on search engines demands careful planning. Explore our step-by-step guide on building a website that will rank to ensure your online presence stands out.

Make It Easy For People To Get In Touch With You

To make it easier for people to get in touch with you, include a contact form on your website.

If you have an email address, include it as well. If not, consider creating one just for local search purposes.

Include a phone number if possible – this has been shown to increase conversion rates significantly!

And don’t forget about postal addresses and social media page links too! These are important parts of local search optimization (LSO).

Link To Authoritative, Relevant Websites From The Content On Your Site

One of the best ways to increase your local search rankings is by linking to authoritative, relevant websites from the content on your site.

This is called “link building” and it can be a very effective strategy for gaining authority in Google’s eyes and driving more traffic to your business.

When linking out, make sure you’re only linking to pages that are related to what you’re writing about or discussing on your website.

For example, if you have an article about fitness or health-related products or services then you could link out (or reference) other authoritative health sites that might be useful for people who are interested in these topics.

Optimize All Of The Pages On Your Website For Search Engines Including The Privacy Policy And Terms Of Service

There are several things to include on all of your pages:

Meta descriptions and titles (Metadata) – The metadata for each page should include an accurate description of the content, as well as a title that accurately describes the content. This information is used to identify keywords in search results.

H1 and H2 tags – Headings play an important role in how search engines read your website’s content. Headings are formatted with HTML headings tags such as and, which help users identify what information on a page is most important or should be read first.

Alt Tags for Images – Images should always have alt tags because they can help readers find text-based information when images cannot be seen, either due to image blindness or because they are turned off by the user (for example, those using screen readers).

On average, alt tags provide around three times more impressions than do non-alt images so it’s important not only that you include them but also that you optimize them correctly!

Redirect from Old Domain Name – If you have moved URLs from one domain name (example: then make sure there is a redirect in place so visitors don’t get lost when visiting pages from this older URL structure!

It’s also recommended that 404 pages return 301 status codes whenever possible.

So when someone clicks on one link looking for another page or resource which does not exist anymore then instead of getting nothing back at all instead we’ll see some sort of message saying something like “Oops! That page doesn’t exist anymore.”
