I Love Copywriting and Don’t Feel Bad About it

Copywriting is a job. I like to think of it as the kind of writing that sells you something, and for good reason. If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance that you’ve read a few things written by me. Maybe even many things. 

I hope you enjoyed them! As someone who writes copy for a living, I have to say: I love my job. But then again, most writers would probably say the same thing about their craft. It’s true! So why do we love our jobs? Here are some reasons why copywriting rocks:

List Your Daily Accomplishments

It’s easy to get discouraged when you look back on a day and see it as a failure, especially if you’re trying to do something new. But this is just the way of humans; we tend to focus on the negatives, instead of what went well. 

I’ve found that one strategy for avoiding this mindset is by keeping lists of everything I’ve done each day and writing down any positive experiences or feelings I had during them, whatever they may be. 

This helps me stop comparing myself to others because I know that everyone has different goals and priorities in life and there’s nothing wrong with that! Acknowledge your achievements at work or school, at home, or out in public: no matter where they happen, putting them down on paper will help keep those good vibes flowing throughout your day (and into tomorrow).

Change The Way You Think About What Is And Isn’t Working

The biggest shift I’ve made in my attitude towards copywriting is from seeing it as a “failure” when a piece of content isn’t successful to thinking about the process as “learning.”

When we think about what we are doing as an experiment, it gives us the freedom to try new things and not worry so much if they don’t work out. It also encourages us to be willing to change our approach, even if something did work once before.

I’ll give you an example: I had written a blog post that was performing well for one of my clients but not nearly as well for another client who had asked me to write an article very similar in style and topic. At first, I thought this was because my writing style wasn’t suited for this particular client’s audience; 

However, after reading some articles by other freelancers who specialized in SEO-friendly content (such as [Emily Andersey](https://medium.com/@emily_andersey)) and analyzing them, I realized that many factors could affect how well you perform on Google’s search engine results page (SERP). 

Things like using keywords appropriately within your title tag can improve your rankings; however, there are also other factors like internal link structure or meta description length which may affect how often someone clicks on one result versus another result at all times.”

Create A Morning Routine That Works For You

As a copywriter, your job is to make other people’s words resonate with their audience. If you can’t get your own words right, how will you help them write theirs?

Start every day by getting up early and doing something anything. Take a walk through the woods, drink water and coffee (or whatever else gets your motor running), and do some yoga or meditation before writing. 

If running works better for you, then run! Read something inspiring in bed before falling asleep each night (nonfiction books are good). Listen to music while exercising or cleaning the house. Practice a new skill like cooking or playing an instrument. When it comes down to it though: just get yourself moving!

Create An Evening Routine That Helps You Unwind

For example, if you have trouble sleeping at night and find yourself worrying about all the things you didn’t get done during the day, try setting aside a few minutes to meditate. This can help quiet your mind and help tuck in for sleep.

Additionally, if you want to unwind after work but find yourself eating too much or drinking too much when everyone else around is doing so, remember that while it’s fine to indulge sometimes (and by all means do), it’s important not to let those habits interfere with your health or productivity. Try going for a walk instead!

Take One Morning Each Week To Plan Your Meals

If you’re not already doing this, take one morning each week to plan your meals for the coming week. The results will amaze you:

You’ll save money by buying in-season produce and bulk items when they’re on sale, which means less food waste.

You’ll eat healthier because fresh ingredients are more nutritious than frozen ones that have been shipped across the country. Plus, it’s easier to measure out a serving size of berries than it is ice cream or chips!

You’ll eat mindfully because it takes more time and effort than just grabbing dinner from the drive-thru window on your way home from work. This way, when you sit down at the table with your family or friends (or both), everybody has a chance to enjoy dinner together without rushing through the meal like they’ve got somewhere else they need to be right away (like school).

Spend At Least Some Time Working On A Hobby Every Day

As I was doing research for this post, I came across a blog post titled “4 Reasons Why Hobbies Are Important.” The first reason is that hobbies give us a sense of fulfillment and accomplishment. 

The second reason is that hobbies help us relax and destress from our everyday lives. 

The third reason is they give us something to look forward to in the future when we have time off from work or school. And the fourth reason is that hobbies provide an opportunity for self-improvement through experimentation and practice (the author also mentions that people who are really into their hobby often seek out training and education programs).

I love these reasons! They speak directly to what makes copywriting so special but not only in terms of how it impacts your life as an individual but also in terms of how it can impact businesses, organizations, groups, and societies more broadly speaking too (and yes – even if you’re just starting with copywriting yourself).

Make A Playlist Of Music You Love

Listening to music that you love is a great way to get in the right mood for writing. Music can help you focus, or it can provide a distraction if you need it.

Make a playlist of your favorite songs, and listen to it while writing. If you are struggling with writer’s block, try listening to music that isn’t usually in your favorites list (but still has some kind of connection or meaning) to spark different ideas within yourself.

You can also create a playlist specifically for writing which includes songs from genres that inspire creativity: classical and jazz are both good choices here!

Try Aromatherapy

Essential oils can be used in many ways. You can buy them individually and use them to help you sleep, focus, reduce stress, increase energy and improve your mood.

You can also mix them to make your custom blend! Try mixing lavender with peppermint for a relaxing scent that helps you fall asleep. Or add some rosemary oil to help stimulate the brain and increase alertness during the day. 

You might even try using a few drops of ginger essential oil along with some lemon oil for an invigorating pick-me-up that will help get you going when you’re feeling sluggish or lacking motivation!

Say No Sometimes

There are two ways to approach this. The first is to say no to something important and then regret it later because you’ve given up something you wanted or needed. The second is to say no when it’s not worth your time, but then feel guilty about depriving other people of your presence or attention.

Regardless of which camp you fall into, there’s one thing that remains true: saying no makes room for more important things in life. If we couldn’t refuse certain opportunities, we’d get bogged down by all of them!

The next time someone asks you for help with an activity or project they’re undertaking be it writing copy for their new website or helping them move furniture take a moment before saying yes. 

Think about whether this task is truly necessary or if there are bigger priorities that need tending first (like spending time with family). Then decide whether the workload is worth your time investment; if not, politely decline gracefully and move on with your day!

Reevaluate Your “To-Do” List

If you are working on a to-do list, it’s time to reevaluate. What is most important? What can be delegated or delayed?

The biggest problem with the traditional to-do list is that it doesn’t intelligently prioritize tasks. It’s more likely that you will forget about the things at the bottom of your list than those at the top because those at the bottom probably don’t require immediate attention and therefore don’t appear as urgent in our minds. 

When it comes down to making decisions about what needs attention, we tend toward instant gratification we want less work today so we’ll do something else later when we have more time or energy (in other words: procrastination).

Of course, not all tasks require immediate attention and some can be safely pushed back for later if necessary. But I find this approach helps me feel less overwhelmed by work demands; if I need another day with no urgent demands on my time then I simply put off any tasks from my “to-do” list until tomorrow when they’ll get done anyway.”

Get More Sleep

Sleep is a big deal. It’s one of the best things you can do for your health, but it’s also one of the easiest things to neglect. The problem with sleep isn’t that we don’t know how important it is we all know it’s important, and yet many of us still don’t get enough.

It helps to understand what happens if you don’t get enough sleep: studies show that not getting enough sleep can lead to weight gain (and obesity), heart disease, and diabetes risk factors such as high blood pressure and cholesterol levels, as well as depression. 

And this doesn’t even account for other negative impacts on health that haven’t been fully studied yet (but may well be linked back to lack of sleep).

So how much should we be sleeping? The standard recommendation is 7-9 hours per night in adults over 18 years old; however, there are plenty of people who function perfectly fine on just 6 hours per night or 10 hours per night! 

How long you need depends on several factors including age, gender, body composition (how much muscle mass vs fat mass), physical activity level etcetera

Eat Well Most Of The Time

  • Eat breakfast.
  • Eat a balanced diet.
  • Eat a variety of foods, including fruit and vegetables, wholegrain foods, milk and dairy products, meat, fish, and beans.

Eat smaller portions of food. The amount of food you need to eat depends on your age, sex, and activity level but you should aim for at least five portions (or servings) a day from all the main food groups – fruit and vegetables; starchy carbohydrates like potatoes, bread, and pasta.

Milk or dairy foods like cheese or yogurt; protein sources such as meat, fish, or beans; fats such as butter or cooking oil.

Eat at least two portions of oily fish per week – mackerel/herring/salmon/trout etc one portion being equal to 140g (4 oz). 

Oily fish provides omega-3 fatty acids which help keep your heart healthy by lowering blood pressure levels in people who are overweight or obese by 1mm Hg systolic BP when consumed regularly with other lifestyle changes such as moderate physical activity (1hr 30mins) most days per week


I know that many people have been told to stop doing what they love. And I’m sure you’ve heard it too, whether from friends, family or even your boss. But here’s the thing – don’t let anyone tell you what to do with your life! 

If you love copywriting and want to pursue it as a career, then go for it! There’s nothing wrong with following your dream career path. You’re not wasting time if you’re passionate about something – in fact, there’s no better way to spend time than doing what makes you happy.
