If you’re struggling to land clients, then email marketing is something that you need to be doing. You only need one client to change your life and make a significant amount of money.

That’s what happened in my case: I used email marketing to land an eight-figure client. As a result, my life has changed dramatically. My business went from being a business that struggled with cash flow problems to be a profitable one worth millions of dollars every year since 2011.

When you’re trying to figure out what email marketing strategy works best for your brand, it all starts with thinking about your ideal client. Who are they? What do they care about? What would they need from you?

To write great emails, you have to know what type of work you want to do, who you want to spend time with, and how much money those clients will pay. By doing so, you’ll be able to craft content that speaks directly to them.

Once you’ve done this exercise (and it might not be as easy as it seems), the next step is a little easier: figuring out how many people like them exist in the world and where they hang out on social media.

Confirm That This Customer Is Looking For A Solution To A Problem Your Product Solves

To get an interested customer, you need to know that they have a problem your product can solve. Use your sales email to confirm that this is the case with your potential customer. 

A great way to achieve this is by asking them about some of their recent experiences with problems that are similar to what your product solves. Sharing something specific about yourself to prompt more information from the customer will also help build rapport and get them invested in you and your company/brand.

Define What You Can Deliver For Your Ideal Client And The Value It Would Bring Them

When it comes to goals, you need to be sure about what you’re setting out to achieve and why. Figure out why you want the kind of results that you do. Be honest with yourself about whether or not these goals are realistic, given your current lifestyle and level of commitment. If you have a partner or spouse, discuss these goals together and make sure that both of you are on board with them or at least able to support each other in achieving them.

Goals should be specific and measurable so that there is no doubt as to whether or not they’ve been achieved. Don’t worry about how far along other people’s fitness journeys are when setting your own goals this is about your progress, not anyone else’s! Use Social Media To Research Where They Hang Out Most Often

The next step is to use social media to research where they hang out most often. This can be a tricky task, but try and find out what social networks they use, what groups or pages they are a part of, and who they follow. 

Take note of the type of content that seems to resonate with them. Are there certain hashtags that appear over and over? Are there certain websites or blogs that get shared consistently?

By taking the time to research this information upfront, you’ll know exactly where to market your products once you have their email address in hand. Not only will this save you time and money in the long run, but it will also give you an extra touchpoint — which means more opportunities for conversation.

Find The Customer’s Email Address

The next thing to do is find the customer’s email address. Depending on your industry, this could be easier or harder than finding their phone number. 

The easiest way you can do this is simply to look through the company website and see if they have an email address displayed somewhere. This is a common practice when companies have a “contact us” page on their website (who would’ve thought!).

If the customer doesn’t have an email visible on their website, you can use a tool like Hunter or RocketReach to get the email address of any employee within that company. Both tools are pretty good and will give you results around ~70% of the time. You could also try finding your customer’s LinkedIn profile, which will often display their email address publicly.

Find A Way To Communicate Your Value With The Client In A Way That Makes Sense For Them

You can’t just say “we do email marketing and we get great results”. I know it sounds simple, but you have to communicate with them in a way that they understand. If they use their industry acronyms and abbreviations, then you need to use those as well. Do whatever it takes to make sure that they understand exactly what you do and how it will benefit them specifically.

Create Content That Adds Value To Your Clients Before You Even Do Business With Them

Give your clients content to help them solve their problems. Not all of them will become clients overnight, but it’s never too early to start helping people and building trust. If you’re not sure what type of content will interest your target audience, listen to them! Ask questions like:

What would you like to learn more about?. What’s stopping you from achieving [your ideal outcome/goal]? (it could be as simple as a lack of resources or information)

How does my product/service help you overcome this problem?. Create a strong piece of content for each answer and share it with your target audience. You’ll gain more credibility with each client who reads your material and thinks, “Wow! This person knows what they’re talking about.”

Focus On Their Problem, Not On Making Money

I’m one of the people they take care of. My email list is my bread and butter. There’s a lot that goes into building an email list, but I’ll focus on the one thing countless bloggers and internet celebrities neglect: the relationship with your readers. 

They’re not numbers for spreadsheets or eyeballs for ads (though those are important too), they’re friends you haven’t met yet. The most successful people in this business know that relationships are everything; it’s the reason I was able to land an eight-figure client by email marketing alone.

The most important thing here is that you understand this isn’t about you making money, it’s about solving their problem(s). There are no two ways around it; if you want someone to read what you write, respond to your emails, buy something from you, or invest in your services then you have to offer them something valuable in exchange for their attention. 

This means positioning yourself as a consultant rather than a salesperson: taking the time to both understand their problem and give them an appropriate solution will bring greater value to them than attempting to sell them on buying whatever product or service gives you kickbacks from affiliates or whatever other “easy” approach some marketer sold you on to make themselves more money off of your ignorance.

I can’t stress this enough. If you want to be successful in any field, you must get clear on what your client wants, and then deliver even better than they expected. It’s all about exceeding expectations. When you ask the right questions keep asking until you fully understand what your client wants.

Provide Support And Mentorship That Goes Beyond What They Paid You For

The key to relationship-building within your community is that you’re willing to help at all times. It doesn’t matter if it’s something covered in your course or not. You want to build relationships that last a lifetime and the quickest way to do that is by connecting with them on a personal level.

For example, one of my online students was having trouble getting into podcasting, even though he had been listening to them for years. I took time out of my day to set up a call with him and we chatted about his goals and how he could implement those things into his life. We talked for over an hour, which was well beyond what he had paid me for in the course!

It wasn’t until months later when he was able to get his first client through the podcasting relationships he had built that I got an email from him thanking me for helping him reach this new milestone in his business. And here’s the kicker: As soon as I saw this email, I immediately responded and said, “I would have done anything to help you! Don’t ever hesitate to reach out again!”
