Write, Write And Write
This is the most important advice I can give you. Write as much as you can, and don’t worry about what other people think. Write for yourself first, and then consider the opinions of others.
Don’t be afraid to write bad stuff either; no one is perfect on the first try even Shakespeare had his share of duds (I mean who keeps reading Hamlet?). Writing too much means that it’s only natural for some of your writing to be utter trash.
Don’t stress about it! Just keep writing until it gets better naturally over time because no one is born being able to write well; we all have to practice, practice, and practice some more before we get good at our craft in any form or fashion whatsoever.

Write For Yourself First
Of course, it’s also important to write what you love. Writing is hard and will require a lot of time, so make sure that whatever you decide to write about, you will enjoy doing so. If it just drags on, then chances are that no one else will bother reading your work either.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that writing has to be only about the fun stuff all the time far from it!
But remember: if your topic does not spark excitement in you at some point during the process of writing it down on paper (or on a computer), then chances are high that people won’t be interested either when they read what you wrote.
They want entertainment; they want something intriguing; they want an insight into another world than theirs whether through fiction or non-fiction or both! You have got plenty of options here to choose wisely though because once published online or in print there is no going back!
Read As Much As You Can
Reading is essential to becoming a successful writer. If you don’t read, it might be impossible for you to become a successful writer.
The first reason reading is important is because it will help you understand the market.
By reading as many books as possible, especially in your genre, you can get a sense of what people like and dislike about different pieces of writing and what types of stories are most popular.
The second reason reading is important is because it will help you understand the language and style of writing that others use so that when it comes time for your work.
There won’t be any surprises in terms of how their work reads or sounds different from yours (for example if they use long words where short ones would suffice).
Every writer faces challenges that can hinder their progress. Learn about the 16 deadly sins that will kill your writing and discover how to avoid common pitfalls that might be holding you back from achieving writing success.
Don’t Quit Your Day Job
Most people want to be successful writers, but few understand the reality of making that happen. The most common mistake is that many writers quit their day jobs too soon and then find themselves struggling to keep up with paying royalties or book advances.
If you’re thinking about quitting your job as a journalist, editor, PR person, or whatever other career path you’ve chosen to pursue writing full time don’t! I know it seems like the logical next step and it sounds so romantic: “I’m gonna be a famous author!”
But if this was true for everyone who dreamed of being an author, we would all be reading novels by Ernest Hemingway right now.
So before you take such an important step (arguably one of the most important steps), make sure you have enough money saved so that your spouse/partner doesn’t have to work anymore either. Then work out when exactly (if ever) will be the right time for both of those things?
Write At Least 500 Words A Day
I’ve talked about this before, but it’s worth reiterating. You need to write daily if you want to be a successful writer.
It doesn’t matter whether or not your goal is to publish books or articles for money writing every day will help you improve your craft and keep improving it until you reach the point where you’re making money from what you do.
Once I started writing regularly, my life changed dramatically. For example:
I was able to finish multiple short stories in less than a month (something that used to take me years)
Always Keep Writing Even When Not Motivated
When you’re not motivated to write, that’s when you need to write the most. Van Gogh would often go for days without painting and then suddenly unleash a flurry of energy.
It wasn’t because he was inspired, it was because he knew he needed to keep doing it even when it didn’t feel good or seem important.
The thing about writers is that writing is like a muscle it needs exercise to grow stronger.
And just as if you were going to the gym every day (which I hope you are), if you stop exercising, your muscles will atrophy and weaken over time until they can no longer support your body weight at all.
But what happens when there isn’t any motivation at all? How can we motivate ourselves out of procrastination and into progress? I’m here today with some tips on how exactly this can be accomplished!

Practice Makes You Perfect
Practice is a key ingredient to becoming a successful writer. The more you write, the better you will become at it. When I first started writing, I could not finish one paragraph without getting stuck and having to start over again.
That was not good enough for me because I wanted everyone who read my work to enjoy it from the first word until the last period (or exclamation mark or question mark). So every day I wrote something new and improved on what I had written before.
Nowadays, when people read my books they say: “Wow! This is so well-written!”
And that is what happened because of practice and perseverance in writing anything every day no matter how hard it was at first or how many times we needed to revise our work later on down the road when better ideas came along during the revisions process.”
Have A Mentor/Role Model To Follow For Writing Advice
Once you’ve finished your first draft, it’s time to take a look at what you’ve written. You may be tempted to think that your writing is perfect, but every writer needs someone else’s perspective. This is where mentorship comes in.
If you’re not sure who your mentor should be, there are many options for finding one:
Ask around and see if any of your friends already have mentors or role models (this could be a professor from college or even the person who runs their local book club).
Alternatively, consider finding someone in another industry who writes blogs about their experiences in that field; chances are they’ll love talking about their work with anyone interested enough to ask them questions!
Just remember: everyone will have different advice for every genre, so make sure you find someone whose experience aligns with yours as much as possible!
Submit Your Articles To Magazines And Websites
The first step to submitting your article is finding the right magazine or website to submit it to. There are three things you need to do before sending an email:
Find magazines and websites that accept articles similar to yours. This can be done using Google, of course! But if that doesn’t work, try searching in more specific ways like “magazine” plus “your genre”, or “website” plus “your genre”. You’ll find a much better result this way!
Make sure the person who will receive your submission is the right person (this isn’t always obvious). If possible, look up their name on LinkedIn as well as Google so that you can see if they match up with what’s written in their bio section.
It’s also good to check their Twitter handle for any personal details like hobbies or interests which may help you get a sense of what type of content they’re interested in reading about themselves online too!
Make sure there are no typos when filling out those contact forms because otherwise, it might take longer than necessary for someone else besides yourself (and maybe even yourself!)
Before receiving an answer from said form submission email address containing all relevant information regarding why/how long/where etcetera let alone whether it was worth doing so at all given how many other things could’ve been done instead…
Follow Up On Submission Status Regularly
The second thing I can’t stress enough is to follow up on submission status regularly. This means following an editor’s guidelines for when you should email them and not contacting them more than once about the same piece.
It may seem like overkill to get in touch with your editor every week, but it does pay off when you can give them a heads up (or a gentle nudge) about when your article will be published.
It’s also important that you don’t contact an editor more than once unless they request it or have asked for additional work from you.
If an editor requests changes from me then I always make sure I do them as quickly as possible so it doesn’t delay my article any further; however, if they don’t think my work is suitable, then there’s nothing I could do anyway!

Keep Your Website Updated With Your Work
- Keep your website updated with your work.
- Have a portfolio of your work.
- Have a blog to promote and communicate with readers.
- Use social media to promote yourself and the books you’re writing.
- Make sure that your contact page is working so people can reach out to you if they have questions or want more information about what it is that you do as an author, illustrator, etcetera!
This should also include an email address that is easy to remember (like [your last name]@gmail) so people don’t have trouble finding it again when needed later down the line!
Also, make sure there are no typos in any emails sent out from this account because those will reflect poorly on how professional we seem as writers/illustrators who need to earn money through their craft one day soon…and nobody wants them thinking bad things about us before even meeting face-to-face!
