If an employer has reached out to me and I haven’t responded promptly (and I rarely do), I’m always worried about how it would look for me if they were going through candidates for another role or position. 

It’s not unreasonable for employers to assume that if someone didn’t care enough about the first opportunity presented, then there’s no reason why they should expect a different outcome with future offers from that company or other opportunities with similar companies either.

Reject Offers First If They’re Not The Ideal Situation For You, Even If You Think You Might Get Another One Later

Often, when you turn down one job offer, it’s only a matter of time before someone else offers you another. However, don’t expect it to happen immediately. You may have to wait weeks or even months before another opportunity presents itself and that’s okay!

Sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself is to wait and rest easy knowing that there will be other opportunities coming in soon. 

The key is to make sure that your current situation doesn’t become too uncomfortable for you during these waiting periods: 

If there are positions out there where you would be more productive and happier than where you currently work, then consider leaving on amicable terms and taking them up instead.
