1. Why I Chose To Become A Freelancer In The First Place?

You can’t blame me. I was sick of the corporate life and wanted to do my own thing. I had no interest in putting up with a boss who didn’t respect me or my colleagues and just wanted to be left alone so that I could get on with my work. 

So when the opportunity presented itself, it seemed like the perfect solution.

I also wanted to work from home as most people do! Working from home means you don’t have any commute time, so you can use that time for something more productive than sitting in traffic jams or on buses/trains, etc… 

Working from home is also more flexible meaning if there’s an emergency at home (elderly parent), then you can jump straight into the action without having to worry about getting back into town later on after your shift has ended at 6 pm for example.

And finally: fashion! It’s no secret that fashion is one of my biggest passions; I love all things related to clothing/textiles/accessories etc… Being able to create these things every day was exactly what drew me towards becoming a freelancer in this industry specifically!

2. To Freelance Or Not To Freelance That Is The Question

Time Management

As a freelance, you have to be able to manage your time well. You are your boss and there is no one telling you what to do or when to do it. So, you must plan out your day in advance so that there are no conflicts between work and personal life (if any).

Finances

Managing finances is also crucial because as a freelancer, you will have less income than an employee but way more expenses (such as office rent). 

Therefore, it is important for freelancers not only to budget their money but also to make sure they don’t fall into debt when starting on their own.

Stress Management

While working as an employee, we usually put all our focus on completing given tasks in order not to get fired from the job we love so much; 

However, in this case, where there are no set deadlines nor consequences for not meeting their stress can build up quickly if managed incorrectly!

3. My Freelance Story…

I have been freelancing for about 3 years now and it has been a great experience, I started as a fashion designer but more recently I have also started working on marketing projects.

I have worked with many different companies and clients such as The British Fashion Council, Topshop, ASOS, Selfridges, and many more.

I have learned so much about the industry by doing this job; not only have I learned how to work with different people but also how to manage my time better.

4. 5 Steps For Becoming A Successful Freelancer In Fashion Industry:

Now that you have an idea of what it takes to be a successful fashion freelancer, here are 5 steps for becoming one:

Choose your niche. The most successful freelancers in the industry know their niche and focus on it. For example, if you’re good at graphic design or web development, then you should try to specialize in those fields. 

It’s easier to get work if you’re known as an expert in a specific area of fashion designing and editing than if you try everything under the sun. 

That said, make sure your expertise is related to fashion so that people who hire you know what they’re getting into when they hire a fashion freelancer like yourself!

Work on branding yourself as a fashion designer/writer/etcetera (your niche). Once again: choose something that works for your personality type and stick with it! 

Once again: make sure this brand fits into what clients want from their freelance designers or writers i.e., don’t go overboard with “coolness” just because everyone else seems cool right now; 

Instead, focus on being professional while still maintaining some sense of fun (or whatever makes sense based on your style).

5. Choose Your Niche Wisely!

Choose your niche wisely! This is the fifth step in becoming a freelance fashion industry worker. You should choose a niche that you are passionate about, because if you are passionate about it and love it, then everything will be great. 

You should also choose a niche that you can make money from; this means that if there’s money in it for other people, then there’s probably some for you too. 

The third reason why you should choose your niche wisely is that if you’re going to be doing something for other people (like designing clothes), then having some sort of talent or skill at doing what they need to be done would help out greatly as well.

So now let’s talk about some stuff: What makes someone stand out from everyone else? I think being unique and different from others makes people stand out more than anything else does!

6. Work On Your Branding, To Stand Out From The Crowd

You may be an amazing designer with a great eye for fashion, but if you don’t have your brand name and image, then nobody will recognize you as the expert that they need.

And this is why it’s so important to work on your branding from the very beginning of your career. 

When I started, I spent hours trying to figure out how to put my name out there without sounding like a scam artist or 419er (that’s Nigerian for “419”, which is what scammers are called).

Before you start freelancing, you must set up your business. This can be done by registering yourself as a sole trader or limited company with Companies House. 

It is also crucial that you have a business plan and financial forecast so that your money matters will be organized and taken care of in advance.

You should ensure that all the legal aspects of being self-employed are taken care of before beginning work on this career path; this includes making sure that all taxes are paid each year and keeping records as required by law (for example, HM Revenue & Customs).

8. Grow A Network Of Useful Contacts!

You have to build a network of useful contacts. The more people you know who are working in your industry, the better!

Networking does not mean that you have to be friends with everyone. You just need to make them feel comfortable enough so that they can give you advice or help when needed. 

And if they do not want to help, at least they will not mind seeing your name once in a while on LinkedIn or Facebook, right?

To grow my network, I started by connecting with as many people as possible through social media platforms like LinkedIn and Facebook. I also met other freelancers at events related to our niche: fashion design or fashion photography workshops like PhotoArt Project (PAP). 

While having coffee together or lunch during these meetings was nice, most of our conversations centered around work-related topics such as client management tips and productivity challenges that we face regularly while working remotely from home offices.

10. Fill Your Portfolio With New Work And Achieve Your Goals!

This is the most important part of your freelance journey! If you don’t have any kind of portfolio, no one will take you seriously. At this point, I had a couple of pieces that were good enough to be featured in my portfolio. 

I also wanted more work on my site so that editors would see what kind of work I could do.

So I started asking my friends if they would let me shoot them for free and take photos in their apartment or empty office space during lunch break. 

Then I started contacting editors and sending them my book as well as these new photos so they could see what else I could do besides what was already on the website (which wasn’t much).

The next step was making sure everything got done on time and making sure all details were covered before sending it out into the world!
