A Day In The Life Of A Freelance Writer Who Stays At Home With Her Kids

If you’re the parent of a toddler and have dreams of becoming a freelance writer, then you’re in luck. A career as a freelance writer can be an excellent choice for stay-at-home parents because it doesn’t require previous experience and allows you to create your schedule.

That being said, there’s no denying that staying at home with children while trying to run a business is hard work. You’ll have to get creative about keeping your little ones occupied while you focus on your writing projects. Don’t let the challenge discourage you, though!

If I can do it, so can you! Here’s how my day as a work-from-home freelancer who happens to also be a freelance writer looks:

Wake Up And Get Dressed

I like to wake up a little earlier than my kids so I can get dressed and ready for the day before they get up. Waking up with them running around in their pajamas would be much harder on me because there’s bound to be some spillage that requires clean-up later.

So I like to get dressed in comfortable clothes, which are easy to clean. I also want clothes that are comfortable to move around in chine-washable!

In addition, one of my favorite features about these new pants is the built-in stretch waistband. It makes them extra comfy when you’re sitting down or bending over!

Wash My Face With Cold Water

  • Brush my teeth and tongue, swish warm water around in my mouth to clean it out, then spit it into the sink (in that order). This will wake me up and help me feel refreshed for the day ahead.
  • Put on deodorant and perfume/cologne/body spray (if you wear any). You want to smell nice and fresh when meeting clients or doing freelance work!

Wake Up The Kids, Make Their Breakfast, And Prepare Their Lunches For School

Wake up the kids, make their breakfast, and prepare their lunches for school.

If you have kids in elementary school, you’ll have to wake them up every morning. This can be difficult for some parents if they aren’t used to having to get up early during the week.

If your child has a hard time waking up in general, try setting an alarm clock or using some sort of sound or light signal that means it’s time to get out of bed instead of relying on yourself or another person yelling at them from another room.

After making sure the kids are awake and dressed appropriately (more on this later), it’s time to make sure they’re fed before sending them off into the world. Make sure they have something substantial like eggs with toast or cereal with milk not just juice or milk by itself because then they’ll be running around like wild animals halfway through class due to hunger pains!

In addition, pack their lunch boxes full of healthy snacks such as fruit so there will still be something tasty when lunchtime comes around!

Make Sure The Kids Have Everything They Need For School

Make sure the kids have everything they need for school.

  • Make sure they have their lunch packed.
  • Make sure they have their homework done.
  • Make sure they have their backpacks ready, with all of their supplies inside of them, including pencils and pens in case you forget!
  • Make sure they’re wearing clothes that are easy to get on and off (no buttons or zippers!) and make sure those clothes are clean!

If you’re organized, this can be done the night before but don’t worry if it’s not possible given your schedule; just check in with them before bedtime to make certain everything’s taken care of for tomorrow morning.”

Take The Kids To School

Take the kids to school. Your day starts with a quick breakfast and everyone heading out the door. Make sure they have everything they need for school, including their homework. Make sure they are dressed properly, fed, and ready to go. Tell them what time you expect them home that evening so there are no surprises when it comes time for dinner or bedtime stories.

Work Out On My Treadmill For At Least 30 Minutes

Remember how important it is to stay fit? You’ll want to make sure you are working out at least three times a week. This will help keep your metabolism up and burn the calories you consume throughout the day.

You should also try to exercise for at least 30 minutes at a moderate pace, whether that be on a treadmill, elliptical machine, or bike. This can be done at home with just a little bit of space set aside for yourself.

Get Something To Eat And A Cup Of Coffee Or Tea

I’m hungry, so I’m going to eat something now. Then I’ll drink some coffee or tea and get some rest for about an hour or two. After that, I may listen to smooth jazz music while sitting on the couch with my laptop in hand, typing away at my latest article assignment.

If it’s nice out today, maybe we’ll go outside and play with our kids until they are hungry enough to eat dinner (and then cook it).

Sit Down And Start Writing My Blog Posts One By One And Store Them In A Folder Where I Write Them Down

  • Sit down and start writing my blog posts one by one and store them in a folder where I write them down
  • Write something unique and interesting, so people will want to read it.
  • Write something that is well-researched, so there’s no chance of being sued for copyright infringement.
  • Write something well-written (this should go without saying), but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen bad grammar and spelling mistakes from writers who thought they were “all good.”

Finish up all my blog posts and then post them to my blog website.

  • Writing your blog posts
  • Posting them to your blog website

If you’re a writer, it would be a good idea to write a few blog posts per day. You can do this by writing about things that are interesting and relatable to readers. Take A Little Break, Drink Some Water, And Rest While Listening To Smooth Jazz Music

You deserve a break. Take it! You’re doing the hard work of staying at home with your children and writing, so take a moment to pat yourself on the back.

Drink some water and rest for a few minutes. If you can find time for this, listening to smooth jazz music is another great way to relax and recharge your batteries.

Don’t worry if you don’t have any smooth jazz music on hand just put on your favorite album or playlist (or Pandora station) while taking this little break from work because it will help make sure that whatever stress has built up over the day gets released in a healthy way instead of being stored up inside where it can cause problems later on in life (like high blood pressure).

Go Outside And Play At The Park With My Kids Until They Are Hungry And Want Something To Eat

If you are a freelancer and have kids, one of the biggest challenges is to get work done while taking care of them. This is because if you leave your kids alone, they will make a mess that will take a lot of time to clean up.

However, since you have already taken care of your children, now it’s time for some fun! You can go outside with the kids and play at their favorite park until they are hungry. Then after dinner is over, clean up together so there won’t be any messes around when you get back out there later on in the day or evening hours before bedtime.

Cook Dinner For My Kids, Clean Up After Dinner And Make Sure That Everything Is Put Away

Cook dinner for my kids, clean up after dinner and make sure that everything is put away before I go back outside to play with the kids again (this is important).

Have dinner as a family and make sure everyone eats. This keeps them full longer so they can play all day without getting hungry.

The dishes are all my responsibility. If you have multiple children then it’s good to assign each kid a certain number of dishes or utensils to wash by themselves. That way everyone feels like they got involved in helping out around the house!

People Also Ask

What’s It Like Being A Freelance Writer Who Stays At Home With Her Kids?

It’s awesome! I get to be there for my kids and still do the work that I love. I’m able to make a living while also spending time with them. It’s not easy, but it is so worth it.

How Do You Balance Work And Family Life?

I make sure that I have time for each thing every day. If I’m working on something, then my family knows that they won’t see me until it’s done. And if my kids need something from me, then they know not to expect much else from me until it’s done.

How Do You Manage All Of Your Household Responsibilities?

The same way as any other parent would be by delegating tasks to others whenever possible and by getting help when necessary (like hiring a housekeeper). Being able to pay for these things means that we can focus on what matters most helping our children grow into kind, productive adults who contribute positively to society.

How Do You Find The Time To Do Your Work?

I’ve got a pretty big work schedule I write around 20 hours a week. But since my kids are also at home, they keep me busy all day long. So while they’re napping or playing, I’m working on my desk in the other room. And when they’re up, we do lots of fun creative things together that make me feel like I’m getting paid for a fun time! 🙂

What Are Some Things That Help You Stay Focused?

It’s important to me that my kids have a routine and structure in their lives, so I try not to interrupt what they’re doing too much when I’m working (unless it’s an emergency). But once in a while, it’s okay if we need to stop what we’re doing and get back into our work groove again.

If we don’t have anything else planned for the day, then sometimes we’ll just go outside or play video games or watch TV together until we feel ready to focus again. It can be hard for them not to be able to play.

How Did You Decide To Become A Freelance Writer?

I have always been passionate about writing and I have always loved the idea of being my boss. When I had my first child, I was looking for ways to make money from home so I could be there for them and so I found a job as a freelance writer. It was perfect! The hours were flexible and it allowed me to spend time with my family while still making money.

What Is Your Favorite Part About Working At Home?

The best part about working at home is that I get to spend more time with my kids. It’s also nice knowing that if they get sick, or if something comes up at school, all I have to do is take care of it myself instead of having to call in sick or find someone else to pick them up.

Do You Ever Feel Like Your Job Interferes With Your Work/Life Balance? If So, How Do You Deal With It?

Yes! Sometimes it can be hard because when you’re working on an assignment there’s always going to be something else going on in your life like taking care of the kids or cooking dinner or paying bills or taking out the trash there’s just never enough time in

How Long Does It Take To Write An Article?

It depends on the amount of research I need to do and how much time I allow myself for that research. Usually, though, I like to allow at least an hour per 1,000 words (about half an hour for each 500), which usually works out to about three hours per article.

But if it’s an especially complex piece requiring more research than usual or if other things are going on in my life that requires my attention, then that number can increase quite a bit.

What Is Life Like As A Freelance Writer?

Being a freelance writer is hard. It’s also incredibly rewarding, but you need to know what you’re getting into before you dive in headfirst. Here are some questions and answers to help you figure it out!

What Does It Mean To Be A Freelance Writer?

You’re your boss. You set your hours, write about whatever you want, and decide who you work for all by yourself. The most important part of being a freelancer is understanding that if you don’t give yourself deadlines, then there won’t be any deadlines at all.

If this sounds appealing to you because you like having no one tell you what to do, then by all means go ahead and become a freelancer! If not… well… we can’t help but wonder why. 🙂

What Is A Freelance Writer?

A freelance writer is a person who writes for different clients but does not have a permanent job with any of them. They are independent contractors and can choose their hours, projects, and deadlines. Freelance writers are usually hired by an agency or company to writing content for a website or other medium. In some cases, they have their website where they sell their work directly to clients.

How Much Money Do Freelance Writers Make?

This depends on the type of writing you do and your experience level. For example, if you write blog posts for clients, you can make anywhere from $10-$50 per post depending on your experience level and the kind of publication you’re going after (for instance, if it’s an educational site that charges more than one that targets businesses).

If you write for magazines or newspapers, expect to get paid by the word and be prepared to be paid less than you would for other types of writing because these publications tend to pay less than blogs or websites do). If you’re a professional author who has published many books under your name (or pen name), then your earnings will be higher than if you were just starting.
