I’m Quitting My Day Job To Pursue A Full-Time Career In Marketing Research

I was a history major in college, which meant I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. Like most of my peers, I thought about grad school and teaching, but I didn’t want to be bogged down by student loans for the rest of my life. 

I also had an interest in business but wasn’t sure how to combine the two. Then, out of the blue, one day someone convinced me that this career called “marketing research” was right up my alley. 

They were right: it combined everything I loved: reading and writing; statistics and data; creativity and problem-solving; quantitative analysis and qualitative research; travel and teamwork; storytelling and strategy. 

After years of uncertainty trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life (and after some years in other marketing fields), I finally found something that fit all my interests perfectly: marketing research is now my full-time career.

I Love Marketing Research

I love marketing research. And I know that you can too. It’s a vibrant, growing industry that is always changing to stay ahead of the curve. You get to travel around and meet new people every day (or at least every week). 

And since it’s part of a wider umbrella field like market research, there are so many different types of jobs you can do!

If you love working with people, expect to be surrounded by them all day long as well. Whether it’s calling consumers or interviewing business owners about their product needs.

Your job will be all about interacting with others and getting feedback on something they use or purchase every day so it pays off big-time when your campaigns are successful!

I Don’t See Myself Doing Anything Else

I’m Still Learning So Much About Myself

One of the reasons I love marketing research is because it’s a constantly evolving field. As a market research professional, you’ll never stop learning about yourself and your clients and customers.

Marketing research is a collaborative effort. It’s all about working with others and getting them to help you achieve success.

This might sound like an obvious point, but it’s worth repeating: Marketing research is not a solo sport. You need the support of your team to be successful because even if your ideas are great, they won’t go anywhere without someone else actually making them happen!

Market Researchers Are Always Thinking About Others

As a market researcher, you’re always thinking about others. This is an important part of the job. Even if you’re not conducting surveys or focus groups yourself (though many researchers do this), you should be able to understand what your clients need and why they need it.

You also have to be keenly aware of how the client’s customers view their products and services. In other words: You’ve got to know how to sell them on it! 

It’s not enough just knowing what people want; you must also figure out how best to present those needs so they can be met without any hassles from either side.

I Believe In Consumer-Centricity (And Consumer Empowerment)

Consumers have more information than ever before. They are more informed and empowered than ever before, thanks to the internet and the proliferation of product reviews, ratings, and recommendations that it has brought about. 

Consumers can easily access resources that help them make the best purchasing decisions possible. If a product doesn’t meet their needs or expectations, they won’t hesitate to voice their opinions on social media sites like Facebook or Twitter; 

They’ll even leave negative reviews for products on Amazon! This gives us marketers a lot to think about when we’re creating our strategies for reaching out to consumers.

It seems that many people are hesitant about buying something new unless it comes highly recommended by someone else who has used it themselves (or at least seen photos of it.)

Consumers have greater control over what brands offer them than ever before. There’s been an increase in online marketplaces where consumers can find niche products from small businesses rather than larger corporations.

This means there’s less risk involved when shopping from smaller companies because there aren’t as many returns due to unsatisfactory products/service offerings being offered by the said company.

And also means there tends not to be as much variation between prices as you might find among similar items sold at big box stores such as Target/Walmart etcetera…

I Like To Travel, And My Career Gives Me That Opportunity

I love traveling. It’s an amazing way to learn about the world, yourself, and other people. There is no better feeling than getting lost in a new city or country and finding something you didn’t know was there before. 

You can never know everything about a place until you’ve explored it on your own two feet!

I also think that traveling is important for marketers because it allows them to understand how different cultures think differently from each other. 

Having this understanding will help them create more effective campaigns that speak to more people around the world without having to rely on stereotypes or generalizations about certain groups of people who live overseas (i.e.: ‘Americans eat fast food all day long).

I Genuinely Enjoy My Clients And My Work With Them

I’m sure you can tell by now, but I love my clients. They are smart, funny, and so much fun to work with! I get to learn from them every day. I’ve met some amazing people through this job. Most of my friends in the industry have been made through working with clients.

It’s not just that they’re great people who are fun to be around; it’s also because they challenge me to grow every time we meet up. 

Every client wants something different out of their research process and there is always room for us (the researcher) to improve their experience while also giving them better results than they may have expected or even dreamed possible!
