In order to land your dream job, you have to make sure that you put yourself out there and get a little uncomfortable. You know what happens when you try new things? You learn new things!

You will only be able to grow if you are willing to take risks; otherwise all we do is sit on our butts watching Netflix reruns of The Office while stuffing our faces with junk food while drinking beer after beer after beer until we pass out on the couch at 9pm (okay, maybe that wasn’t so bad). 

Asking for help or feedback from others will also provide valuable insights into how others view us and our behavior and hey it might even prompt some friendly give-and-take.

Don’t Wait To Be Asked

Don’t wait for someone to ask you to do something. Don’t wait for someone to say yes. Don’t wait for someone to tell you to do something. Don’t wait for someone to give you permission or tell you that it’s okay or allowed or acceptable or even legal (or not) before doing it just do it!

This is what I call “leapfrogging.” It’s the opposite of leapfrogging: instead of waiting until the end of a project, process, task, etc., just start doing it now and figure out how it works as you go along.

You should always keep your options open. You never know when a better opportunity will come along, so it’s important to keep an eye out for opportunities that might be right for you.

Many new hires ask about things like benefits, salary and vacation time. While those are certainly important topics to address at some point during the interview process.

They aren’t what supervisors really want to talk about when they’re considering who should be hired for a job.

Instead of asking about these items up front (unless you’ve already been offered the position), wait until after you get an offer and then ask more specific questions such as “What does my typical day look like?” or “How do I know if my performance is satisfactory?”
