Don’t be afraid to ask for help or advice. Even if you’re a self-starter, and even if you’ve read every book on business development and networking there is, sometimes it’s good to get feedback from someone who knows more than you do. 

Your boss might have the best way of doing things, but that doesn’t mean he or she is the only one who knows how to do them well.

In addition to talking with your supervisor about your work performance, try asking other people in the industry questions about how they got their start and what advice they’d give future professionals like yourself. 

You may be surprised by how willing other professionals are to talk with someone who looks up to them!

Writing A Cover Letter That Ingratiates You

A cover letter is your opportunity to ingratiate yourself with the hiring manager and set yourself apart from other candidates. The most effective way to do this is to:

Introduce yourself. In the first paragraph, provide a brief introduction of who you are, what you’ve done, and why they should be impressed by that information.

Be specific about what you can do for them. In the second paragraph (or third if it’s a long cover letter), detail exactly how their company will benefit from having you on board. How will your experience help them grow? 

Why are you better than other employees? What makes your skillset unique? There are lots of ways to show off here use this section as an opportunity to wow them with hard evidence of why they need someone like themselves working at their company!

Include a brief description of your background, skillsets and qualifications as needed for each job opening in question. 

If there isn’t much information available online about something relevant like where I studied abroad during undergrad then mentioning where I did my undergraduate studies could suffice instead.”

Listen hard when people talk without making assumptions about what has been said by paraphrasing back in your own words only after getting confirmation from them that this was indeed what was meant by what was said originally.

Ask For Favors Rather Than Complaining About Them

Asking for favors is a great way to build relationship with people. It helps you develop your network and make connections in your industry. When it comes to asking for advice, it’s important not to complain about something when you are asking for help. 

This will only put the person on the defensive, making them less likely to help you out later on down the road if they get an opportunity where they can do so. Instead, try saying something like:

“I had this problem and I was wondering if you could give me some advice.”

Act As You Deserve It

One thing you’ll have to get over is the fact that you don’t deserve it. Most people will be surprised if you ask for advice; they’re likely thinking, “Well, of course I can help I was just about to ask for your advice!” But in reality, it’s much harder than that.

You need to go in with the right mindset: act like someone who deserves this job and wants what’s best for him or herself. That means asking questions up front, even if they feel weird or intrusive (and they might). 

You want someone who will honestly give you all the information so that at least one person knows where they stand on any issues like raises or promotions before anything happens while everyone else is in the dark.

It also means knowing when it’s time to move on from a company and taking steps toward finding a new job even if those steps involve getting another position elsewhere first so as not to burn bridges at your current workplace.

Focus On Your Network

You are a part of a network, and you want to be the best part. You want to make sure that when your network is discussed, you come across as someone who can add value. That means focusing on yourself and your abilities, not what you’re lacking or what needs improvement.

To accomplish this goal, write a resume that highlights your strengths and achievements instead of flaws and weaknesses the latter are better left for an interview when they don’t have time to do damage control! 

Once you’ve got an impressive resume in hand, write an equally impressive cover letter that explains exactly why companies should hire you (rather than anyone else). After all this hard work building up your good qualities comes the fun part: interviewing!

The best way of finding out what it takes to get a business development role is by talking directly with people who are already doing the job. Ask them about their previous experience and what they would have done differently if they had it all over again.

Have An Elevator Pitch Ready

Similar to the resume and cover letter, you will need a concise and compelling elevator pitch. An elevator pitch is a short introduction that explains who you are, what you do, and why someone should hire you. 

It’s an important tool for selling yourself in person as well as over email or phone calls.

Here’s how I built my own: I started by writing down what I’ve done in both my professional life and my personal life. 

Then I organized them under three main categories strengths/skills/experience (i.e., what I’ve done), values (i.e., why), and goals (what I want). 

Next, I wrote out how each of those things could benefit any company or organization looking for someone like me to fill their open position(s). 

Finally, after several revisions and edits with friends who gave me feedback about both content and clarity of language used throughout my pitch deck not just at the top level but also throughout all sections I had a simple yet effective presentation ready to go whenever anyone asked!

Practice Your Body Language And Posture

It’s important to learn how to use body language and posture in a way that makes you seem confident, confident people are always more likely to be hired. Here are some tips:

  • Eye contact – Look at the interviewer directly in the eye when they’re speaking, it shows them you’ve been paying attention and means that they can tell if you’re lying or not.
  • Posture – Make sure your shoulders are back and relaxed, don’t slouch or lean forward too much as it’s a sign of insecurity. Try standing with one foot slightly forwards – this gives off an air of confidence without being aggressive or overbearing.
  • Smiling – smile! A genuine smile is a great way of conveying warmth and friendliness while remaining professional so don’t forget those teeth!

Put In The Time And Effort To Create A Good Resume

Your resume is the first thing an employer will see, so you need to make sure it’s up to par. A good resume should include all of your relevant qualifications and experience, as well as any certification or special training you’ve received. 

It’s also important to make sure that all of your information is current if you haven’t worked in 6 months, don’t list those jobs on your resume!

When creating a great business development executive resume, keep these tips in mind:

  • Be clear and concise; no one wants to read a novel when they’re looking at resumes.
  • Show off what makes you unique; if there’s something that sets you apart from other candidates (like taking on extra responsibility at work), make sure it appears prominently on your page.
  • Choose strong action verbs for each bullet point; this makes each point stand out more clearly than by using blandly passive language like “improved efficiency” instead of “increased productivity by 20% over the past year.”

Don’t Skimp On The Cover Letter

The cover letter is your first impression. It’s the one chance you have to make an impact on a hiring manager, and it should be treated as such. You should spend as much time crafting this document as you do working on your resume.

Here are some key tips for writing a good cover letter:

Personalize it. Your target company may have several hundred resumes to go through, so make sure yours stands out by highlighting why they’ve decided to hire you over everyone else applying for the position (or at least why they should). 

Highlight relevant skills and experience that relate directly back to the job description itself. If possible, mention specific details about how those skill sets could help them grow their business or solve problems that currently exist in their organization.

Keep it short and sweet but still informative enough that someone could tell whether or not what they’re reading would benefit them without having met you face-to-face yet.

Use simple language without too many grammatical errors — not just because people will judge how well educated/well-spoken/professional someone is based on their writing style alone but also because this is one area where even hiring managers who aren’t native speakers will notice mistakes that would otherwise go unnoticed if everything else was perfect!

Proofread carefully before sending; nothing makes an impression worse than typos!

Don’t Underestimate The Power Of Research

The first step in landing your dream job as a business development executive is to do solid research. Researching the company and its industry will give you an idea of how things work and what challenges are likely to come up as you start working there. 

Similarly, researching the job description will help you understand what skills and experiences are most important for success in your role, so that you can focus on improving those aspects of yourself during the interview.

Don’t underestimate the power of research: if done correctly, it can make all the difference between securing an offer from your top choice or being rejected by everyone else who interviewed on that day.

Researching competitors allows prospective employees to develop a sense of which companies are doing well (and why).

Which ones have room for improvement, which niches might be ripe for disruption by new entrants into the market space being explored by existing firms, or even whether there’s any demand at all! 

This kind of knowledge helps prepare people mentally before they’re thrown into unfamiliar situations where they may need some extra confidence boost just getting started out their venture into unfamiliar territory.”

Make Sure You Understand The Company Culture

In the first few interviews, you will be asked to talk about yourself and your experience. The interviewer will want to know what kind of person you are, what motivates you, and where your passions lie. 

When it comes time for these questions, have a prepared answer ready that demonstrates how well-suited for the role you are.

To get an idea of their company culture before interviewing with them:

  • Read their website carefully – find out what they do and what makes them special;
  • Look at the social media accounts they maintain (if any);
  • Search LinkedIn or other job sites for people who work at that company; ask them questions about how things work there;


In the end, it’s all about being yourself. You have to be prepared to take risks and embrace change, but if you can do that, then you will be able to go after your dream job as Business Development Executive.
