Technical analysts are not the only people who can provide tech support. The IT field comprises many more jobs that you might think, and they’re all just as vital to your company’s success. Some examples of these positions include:

These positions are very different from technical analyst but they share two important things in common: firstly, they require specialized knowledge to do your job well; secondly and most importantly, they are all under-represented in the workplace.  

In fact, there are more than three times as many software developers than there are technical analysts! 

If you want to stand out from the crowd at interview time (or just get noticed by recruiters) then consider applying for one of these roles instead of opting for an obvious “tech” path like technical analyst or programmer engineer.

Figure Out What You Want Out Of Work, Outside Of Programming

Once you’ve settled on a job, it’s time to decide what you want out of the work. This is an important question to ask yourself before accepting any offer or position. 

In fact, thinking about your career goals can help land you that dream job in the first place: if they’re not compatible with what’s being offered or expected of you, then maybe it isn’t!

These are some things that I value highly when considering whether or not accepting a position would be right for me:

Work-life balance – this means different things to different people; for example, my idea of “work” may include programming but also include activities outside of programming that make me feel happier and more balanced (exercising regularly).

Flexibility – working from home sometimes makes life easier by avoiding commuting; it also gives flexibility when someone needs something from me without needing face-to-face interaction (e.g., emailing instead).

Opportunities for growth – learning new skills and taking on bigger projects are two ways in which one can grow professionally during their career!

Opportunities for travel/adventures – getting paid to travel sounds like heaven! But even if it doesn’t involve jetting off somewhere exotic every few months (which is what I’m hoping will happen).
