Preparation
Before you even consider writing a single word, it’s important to make sure that you have a good topic. You should ask yourself: Am I passionate about this? Do I have a lot of knowledge about this? Am I interested in learning more about this? If not, then don’t write about it!
If the answer is yes, then congratulations you’ve found yourself with a great topic! There are still some things you need to do before getting started though.
Understanding the psychology behind consumer behavior is crucial for effective marketing. Learn more about Understanding Marketing is Understanding Human Beings and how it can shape your strategies to sell products online.
Getting The Talk
What Is TEDx?
The TED conference stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. The first conference was held in 1984 and has since become a central place for sharing ideas on all of those subjects. TED’s mission is to spread great ideas across the world and build a community around them.
TED talks are 18 minutes long and have been viewed more than 2 billion times online that’s roughly 12 million views per day!
How To Get A Talk On Tedx… With One Little Catch…
To get on the waiting list for a TEDx talk, you need two things: First, you need an idea that can be presented in 18 minutes or less;
Second…you need someone else (an existing speaker) who has agreed to recommend your talk if it gets chosen as one of their replacements.
Dive into the minds of your potential customers and discover what drives their decisions. Our guide on How to Read the Minds of Your Prospects reveals techniques to understand your audience and boost online sales.
The Audition/Submission Video
TEDxTalks are a series of TED Talk-style events that occur independently and around the world. They’re organized by local volunteers, who apply to host an event.
If your suggestion is accepted, you will receive an audition (or submission) video form where you can submit your idea and explain why you are qualified to give this talk.
The most successful applications have the following attributes:
- A very clear explanation of why you should be chosen as the speaker for this particular topic.
- A compelling story that demonstrates why you have something unique and valuable to say on this subject matter (i.e., don’t just tell us what your talk will cover).
- A sense of passion TEDxTalks is full of fantastic speakers who truly believe in their topics!
Designing Your Talk
Designing your talk is the first step in creating a visually stunning presentation. This means that you should use a template and make sure that it’s clean, easy to read, and matches your topic (you’ll want to avoid blue if you’re talking about statistics).
You’ll also want to be sure that the design doesn’t distract from what you’re saying by using too many fonts or colors.
When picking out a font, make sure it fits with the overall theme of your presentation.
For example, if I was doing a Tedx talk about how teachers can teach their students better by making them feel comfortable in their classroom environment I might choose Helvetica or Arial because they are common fonts found on computers.
And therefore those types would be more likely recognized by people watching my video later on YouTube or Vimeo after uploading it there instead of just being posted directly from Facebook where most users aren’t going anywhere near their computer screen while watching videos anyway since mobile devices dominate this medium these days anyway!
Make sure all text is easy for viewers’ eyes so they can see exactly what words are being said without having trouble reading anything due They should not have any difficulty following along with whatever point being made!

Writing Your Talk
Stick to a simple structure. Use a conversational tone, and write in short paragraphs. If you’re writing your talk as if it were an essay, then it’s best to keep it short and sweet (no more than 5 minutes).
Vary the length of sentences and use different sentence structures. One-sentence paragraphs are fine, but don’t go overboard on them they’ll start to sound like an email from your boss that’s filled with “To whom it may concern” or “I’m sorry for the inconvenience.”
Vary the vocabulary you use throughout your talk as well. You can also try using some of these words: “ergo,” “contrariwise,” and “ultimately.” (These aren’t real words.)
Make sure that punctuation is correct throughout your talk. Example: Never end with a question mark because it will ruin everything! Don’t forget about hyphens either; they’re super important when writing anything related to grammar or spelling!
Getting Your Talk Ready For The Stage
Practice your talk as much as you can before you present it. The more time you have to get used to speaking in front of a crowd, the better.
You can do this by practicing in front of a mirror, but it’s even better if you can practice in front of someone else. Here are some options:
- A friend or family member who will give honest feedback — and who will be patient with you if the first couple of tries are tough
- A camera set up on a tripod somewhere (or even just your phone) so that when you’re done with each run-through, there’s footage of what just happened
- A group of people who aren’t going to judge how poorly they think your talk went
Delivery Day
Delivery Day is a big day for you. It’s the day when you give your talk, and it’s also the day when you sell your products or services. You’ll be nervous, but don’t worry you’ve prepared well and this is not something new for you.
You know what to expect from Delivery Day because we talked about it at length during our earlier sessions together.
But before we go any further, I want to ask: How did Preparation Day go? Did everything go smoothly? If not, then stop here and take some time off if necessary before moving forward with Delivery Day!
If everything went well on Preparation Day (and I’m sure it did), then let’s get started with Delivery Day itself!

Your Audience Before You Go On Stage
When you’re about to give a Tedx Talk, you must know exactly who is in the room. You want to make sure that there are no surprises.
Are they going to be newbies or experts? Do they know about your product or service already? Where will the event take place: indoors or outdoors? The time of day can also affect how many people will be there, so make sure that you check on this as well.
Your audience might include people who have never heard of Tedx before, so it’s important for them to feel comfortable while they’re sitting in front of their screens watching your presentation and listening to what you have to say.
If they don’t feel comfortable, then they’ll probably leave after a few minutes because they won’t want their experience tainted by too much awkwardness–and this could mean lost sales!
Going On Stage!
Once you’re on stage, it’s important to remember to breathe. You are going to feel nervous, but that is natural and normal. It’s what will give your talk its most authentic energy. Just try not to stress out about it too much.
If you worry about how well you are doing too much, it could hurt your performance because nerves can lead to forgetting things or otherwise messing up in front of a crowd like this one here at TEDx!
So remember: be confident in yourself and proud of what you have accomplished so far!
This is a big day for both our team and me personally; I’m excited for this opportunity we have been given by TEDxSydney 2019 with our talk on online sales strategies for eCommerce businesses!
Making The Most Of Your Time On Stage
Preparing for your presentation is all about being prepared. The better prepared you are, the more confident and relaxed you’ll be on stage. Here are some things to keep in mind:
Be mindful of your time – don’t let yourself get sucked into technical issues if you can avoid them. If there’s an issue with the projector or the microphone, let the host deal with it and start speaking again when everything is working again.
Be prepared to answer questions from the audience – have some questions ready in case someone asks something unexpected (e.g., “How do I use Facebook ads?”).
This will help ensure that even if something goes wrong during your presentation, no one notices and they just think they saw something interesting happen!
Use PowerPoint slides as a guide – don’t read off them verbatim because this will take up too much time! Instead, use them as a guide for what points need explaining more than others
Post-Talk Activities And Getting Noticed By More People
Do some post-talk activities. This is a great time to get noticed by more people, so it’s important to get the most out of your Tedx Talk exposure. Here are some things you can do:
Post the video of your talk on YouTube and other video platforms (if applicable). You should also post if you have any supporting content that can be used in a presentation or as webinars, white papers, or blogs.
You could even use these same resources as part of an online course or podcast series if they’re appropriate and are high-value enough to help people learn from what you’ve shared with them at Tedx Talk events.
Put together an ebook version of your speech (and send it out for free!). Ebooks don’t cost much money to create and distribute through Amazon KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing) or similar platforms.
But they do offer great value for readers who want more information about what was covered in the presentation during an event like TEDx Talks sessions where there’s often limited time available for Q&A sessions after presentations take place to live on stage each day throughout each conference/event series year round!
