How Freelancing Is Like Being At The Wheel Of A Speeding Car

Sometimes, when people hear the term “freelancer,” they think of a mythical creature who’s never had to hold down a regular job.

Maybe this is someone who lives in their parents’ basement, or perhaps it’s an eccentric (and lazy) creative type who lives off their spouse’s income. While these types of freelancers certainly exist or at least are depicted in some misleading stereotypes the reality of being self-employed couldn’t be further from these assumptions.

In fact, after years spent as an employee and then a freelancer, I can say that working for yourself is more like being at the wheel of a speeding car than anything else. In this article, I will share tips on how freelancing is like the wheel of a speeding car.

Takeaways
Freelancing requires adaptability and quick decision-making, just like being at the wheel of a speeding car.
Both freelancing and driving at high speeds demand a proactive approach and the ability to navigate obstacles effectively.
Like a speeding car, freelancing can provide a thrilling and fast-paced experience, but it also requires caution and control.
Balancing risks and rewards is crucial in both freelancing and driving, as they involve taking calculated chances for success.
Freelancers, like drivers, need to stay focused, anticipate changes, and be prepared to adjust their course when necessary.

Freelancing Is A Ride

Freelancing is a ride. It’s exhilarating, it makes you feel on top of the world and there are moments when it can feel like you’re flying high. But then there are also times when things get rough and you have no idea what’s going on or why.

You’ll be thrown around in ways that you never thought possible, left wondering if you’ll ever make sense again. But just as quickly as you’re thrown from side to side, freelancing will bring back up your spirits again with one great project after another.

And even if those projects don’t come as often as hoped for (and sometimes they don’t), freelancing is still worth it because every now and then when your client loves what you’ve done you feel like nothing else matters in this world but that moment of satisfaction: “I did something right!”

In some ways working for yourself feels like being at the wheel of a speeding car: fun at first but eventually becoming tiresome and exhausting; scary at times because no one knows exactly where they’re going next; stressful too because trying not to fall off while getting used to all its movements becomes harder each day… yet somehow really rewarding too!

Freelancing is changing the way we work, offering flexibility and new opportunities. Learn more about how freelancing is changing the way we work and adapt to the evolving landscape of employment.

You Don’t Stop For A Moment

You don’t get a break. Freelancing is a 24-hour job, and I think you should embrace that rather than fighting it. If you’re going to be working in this position long-term, then you need to learn how to be on at all times. You can’t afford to stop for even a moment, or things will fall apart very quickly in your business and life.

You have to keep going and keep improving because there are always new opportunities that are just around the corner waiting for someone else’s attention (and yours). It’s not easy work; sometimes it feels like busy work but if you’re willing and able (that’s another topic), then the rewards will come sooner than later.

You Can Get Hurt At Any Time

When you work for a company, there’s a safety net. You get paid a salary and your boss doesn’t have to worry about finding new clients or keeping the lights on. If he or she doesn’t like you, they can just fire you and move on to someone else.

But as a freelancer, everything is on your shoulders and if any part of your business fails for any reason whatsoever, it could mean financial ruin for you and your family (or at least some pretty intense anxiety).

You are responsible for finding new clients and making sure that they pay their bills not only but also ensuring that everyone involved in the process has what they need from day-to-day operations.

So that nothing falls through the cracks during busy periods where multiple projects are coming due simultaneously (and if one does fall through then there goes another chunk of cash into fixing things up again).

It’s A Satisfying Feeling To Know That You’ve Done Something Right

It feels good to know that you have made a difference and made someone else’s life a little easier, or improved their day in any way. It feels good when you get positive feedback from clients who are satisfied with your work or can see how much effort was put into it.

You also feel like your work matters when there is an impact on others’ lives whether they are clients who come back for more projects or even just friends telling them what great work they did on a particular project!

The Car Can Fall Apart At Any Time And Then You’re Left With Nothing

As a freelancer, you’re your boss, which means that the car is all yours. You may not have to deal with a bunch of annoying co-workers but that also means that there are no coworkers to help you either. You won’t have anyone to cover for you if anything goes wrong.

The car can break down at any time and then you’re left with nothing. It can be stolen at any time or damaged while in storage and then stolen again since it’s been damaged in the first place. It could even be lost (this has happened before) or broken during transportation as well as when someone else tries driving it around town!

Sometimes, You Need To Keep The Wheels Spinning Just To Keep Going

If you’ve ever been on a long road trip, you know how important it is to keep the wheels spinning. If you stop too long, your car will overheat or break down altogether. You need to keep moving forward if you want to get anywhere at all.

The same can be said for freelancing: sometimes it’s easier just to do what needs doing without stopping and thinking about why we’re doing them in the first place. But that doesn’t mean we should never stop moving forward or even take a break.

It just means we should always have something else lined up so that when things slow down we have something else ready to go in its place (more on this later).

A Single Wheel Could Mean Nothing Without The Rest Of The Car

A single wheel could mean nothing without the rest of the car. If one wheel is broken or missing, then a car won’t be able to get you where you need to go. But if all four wheels are intact and working properly, then it will make your travels much smoother and safer.

This is true for freelancers as well: if they have all their skills in place, they’ll be able to work more efficiently than someone who only has half of them under control.

There Are Hundreds Of Wheels Like Yours, But None Are Exactly Like Yours

You are unique and so is your perspective. You have a unique set of skills, experiences, interests, personality, and way of doing things. And guess what? Your customers need that.

You can be the best wheel on the market but if you don’t fit their needs, you won’t get any business from them.

It’s important not just to be good at what you do: it’s also important that what you do is aligned with your clients’ needs and goals (and perhaps even more importantly – their worldview).

Every Day Is Different From The Last But They All Add Up To One Thing

Every day is different from the last but they all add up to one thing. You are getting closer to your goals and dreams. Each day you learn something new and work on a new project, which makes it easier for you in the future because each time it gets easier.

It’s like being at a race track where you have to drive around in circles with other cars that are also driving around in circles at high speeds. Each time you go around, you get closer to finishing the race but there is no finish line, only endless possibilities of what could happen next!

You Keep Trying To Make Things Work, As Fast As You Can, But You Never Know If What Works Today Will Work Tomorrow

It’s like being a wheel on a speeding car. You get thrown from one side of the vehicle to the other and then back again without any idea of where your destination is or how long it will take to get there if your ride ever stops; all you have is instant gratification in sight now but someday soon that’ll be gone too.

When Someone Says “Turn Right,” You Turn Right And Figure It Out As You Go Or Maybe Before If It’s Dangerous

There’s no way around it: working remotely will change the way you work. You’ll need to learn how to be more independent, how to problem-solve quickly, how to adapt as necessary, and even how to work in a team setting with your remote team members.

If these skills don’t sound familiar and comfortable, they’re something you’ll want to get used to because they’re essential for freelancing successfully. Some of these tips are more obvious than others like being able to think on your feet and solve problems quickly but some aren’t as straightforward.

For example: when someone says “turn right,” does that mean turning right toward the nearest exit? Or does it mean turning right at the next intersection so we can go back into traffic? These questions might seem simple at first glance but can quickly become complicated as time goes on; this is why knowing who’s doing what in your company (and where) is so important!

When You Do Something Out Of The Ordinary, It Pays Off In Big Ways Sometimes Or Rarely At All

When you do something out of the ordinary, it pays off in big ways sometimes or rarely at all. The only way to know is by trying. Failure isn’t a negative thing; it’s part of the learning process that helps us get better and keep pushing forward when we’ve hit a wall.

Asking for advice from other people who have already done what you’re trying to do can help guide you through challenges and struggles so that your mistakes aren’t repeated over and over again. It can also give you a sense of confidence when tackling new tasks, knowing that others have been there before and survived just fine.

Sometimes You Just Need To Change Things Up A Bit And See If They Work Differently Afterward

Sometimes, you just need to change things up a bit and see if they work differently afterward.

It’s a good idea to be open to trying new things on your terms, especially if those terms are dictated by other people who have no idea how hard it is for you as a freelancer. You can’t expect the same results every time, so be ready for failure and success alike.

Sometimes You Feel Like Your Life Is A Mess And Everything Is Falling Apart Around You

Sometimes you feel like your life is a mess and everything is falling apart around you, but eventually, it comes back together again even better than before!

You don’t always know what’s coming for you; there are ups and downs. But if you have faith in the process, and trust that things will turn out okay in the end (and they usually do), then that feeling of uncertainty can be quite exciting.

You have to be willing to take risks and fail at times because sometimes failing leads to success! If there was no risk involved in getting where we want to go, then everyone would already be there (and I don’t think many people would want that).

In this world of relentless change and uncertainty where anything can happen at any moment (good or bad), we should never stop being curious about what’s next on our journey as freelancers…

What Is The Difference Between Freelancing And Being Employed?

You’re in control of your schedule. You can work when you want and where you want. A lot of people who freelance are their bosses. That means they get to set their hours, travel whenever they want, and do whatever they please, so long as it doesn’t interfere with the work they need to get done.

What Do You Mean By “It Will Stop When It Wants To?”

It means that even though freelancers have more freedom than full-time employees, they also have less control over their schedules.

Freelancers don’t know when their next paycheck will come in or what projects might be waiting for them once they’ve completed one project. That can make freelancing feel unpredictable and scary at times, but it also means that there are opportunities for growth and learning that aren’t available in other types of work situations.

Who Should Consider Freelancing?

Anyone who has ever dreamed of working for themselves or setting up their own business can benefit from freelance work especially if they’ve been looking for a way to make some extra money while they figure out what they want to do with their lives.

If you’re interested in freelancing because it’s more flexible than a traditional job, be aware that there are also downsides to freelancing that aren’t present in traditional employment: You’ll likely have less stability than if you had a regular paycheck and benefits, and working as an independent contractor means that you won’t have any coworkers to help ease the stress of long hours or tough clients.
