The main benefit of working as a freelance writer is that you can make your schedule. You get to decide when and where you want to work, which means you can work whenever you want. This freedom has helped me focus on the tasks that are most important at any given time in my life, and I love it!

For example, this summer I was taking an intensive course in public relations at Penn State University (which meant lots of homework) so I took advantage of having complete control over my schedule by setting aside time every night to write for clients instead of studying for exams or doing other household chores.

Negotiate your rates. As a freelancer, you can negotiate your rate with clients and that’s not just out of politeness or good manners. No matter how much work you’ve done in the past for a client, there are no guarantees that they’ll pay you what they promised at the agreed-upon rate.

It’s always up to you whether or not you want to accept their offer. You might decide it’s worth taking less than they are willing to pay because it means an opportunity for more work in the future, or perhaps there is something else about this job (like working with really great people) that trumps money as a factor when deciding whether or not to take on new projects with them.

Working From Home Is The Best

There’s no more staring at the clock and wondering when you’ll be able to leave. You’re already in your PJs, so it’s time to get to work! And if you’re working from home, there are no ties or suits necessary you can work in whatever you want. Want some pajamas? 

Sure thing! Or maybe a pair of jeans and a T-shirt work better for you? That works too. Maybe even a bathrobe if that gets the job done best!

I’ve gotten into the habit of working from bed because I find I’m more comfortable there than sitting at my desk. I think this is because writing for me consists mostly of sitting around thinking about what to write next, so by default my brain wants to be horizontal while doing so (definitely not recommended). 

Regardless of where I am when I’m writing, though, it’s rare that anyone else sees me at all during those hours, and even then they only see what they expect: a fully clothed writer who looks like he/she has their sh*t together (for now).

You Can Work In Your Pjs (And No One Will Know!)

This is a big one for me. I love the feeling of being comfortably dressed when I work, and my pajamas are my favorite article of clothing to wear. After having a long day of writing, I just want to be able to relax and not worry about how I look or how others might perceive me. 

When you’re working from home, it’s so easy to do this! Nobody else can see you anyway; all they know is that you’re somewhere far away from them!

This sense of freedom extends beyond what you wear you also get to choose where you work! You don’t have to commit yourself exclusively to an office on Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm like most people do; instead, freelance writers have more options available when it comes time to get things done. 

Do what works best for YOU: if Fridays at noon are too late after a long week but Saturdays at ten am aren’t early enough then try both until something clicks with your schedule 🙂

Dreams Do Come True

This is the kind of article that could inspire you to leap. It’s not a fairy tale, and it’s not 100% perfect. But if you’re willing to work hard, be persistent, and take risks along the way, then dreams can come true even when they seem impossible at first glance.

It’s A Beautiful Thing Not To Have A Boss

Working from home and being able to work on your schedule are huge perks of freelance writing.

You don’t have to answer to anyone, and you can work virtually anywhere as long as you have access to the internet. This makes it easier for me when I want to take a break or if my daughter needs some extra attention in the middle of the day. I often go outside during naptime and write in the park or at a coffee shop (and yes, this is possible even if it’s below freezing).

It’s also nice because sometimes I just want something different than sitting at my desk all day! It’s fun being able to get up and move around while still working – especially with an energetic toddler running around!

I know people who are good at making money, but they don’t enjoy it. They do it because it’s what they were told to do.

I also know people who love making money, and they are very good at it without even trying.

It’s about finding your natural state of being and then doing whatever you want with that energy instead of fighting against how hard or easy a task is or how much money you will make from it.

Flexibility For Fun Times Becomes A Priority

You can adjust your schedule to fit your life. If you have kids or kids are involved in extracurricular activities outside of school, and you want to spend more time with them than the typical workday allows, then working from home is ideal. You can also set aside time for yourself if you prefer not to work during the day.

If travel is important to you and your family, then working as a freelancer will give you the flexibility needed to take off when it’s convenient for everyone. The same goes for pursuing other interests it may not be feasible for someone with a full-time job but as a freelancer? That’s just another day!

You Get To Be The Boss Of Your Own Business, Which Is Awesome And Scary At The Same Time!​

Being a freelance writer means you get to be the boss of your own business. This can be great and it can also be really scary! 

It’s great because you get to decide how much work you do and when which clients you take on, what topics or subjects interest you, who to work with (if any), and what kind of clothes are appropriate for the job (no dress code!), etc.

It’s also scary because if things don’t go well with one client/project or another thing goes awry in life; it could mean that there won’t be any money coming in for some time until another project comes along. Also, being self-employed means no vacation days or sick days!

Your Family And Friends Will Never Understand What You Do (But It’s Ok)

I have a friend who is an engineer and his wife is a nurse. They both work full-time, and they have two kids. I don’t think either one of them has ever been able to completely explain what their jobs are to me in layman’s terms. 

Even if they did, I still probably wouldn’t understand it all because I’m not an engineer or a nurse! It just doesn’t click for me because those aren’t my interests or my passion for writing!

I’ve worked with people who have told me that they wish they could work from home but their company doesn’t allow it, or that they don’t want to be self-employed but their employer won’t give them flexible hours so that they can spend time with their family (cough cough). 

When people hear about my writing career, it always surprises them even though this surprise isn’t negative per se: more like “wow, what an interesting career path”.

You Miss Working Every Now And Then, But Nothing Beats The Freedom Of Freelance Writing!

It’s hard to find a flexible job that pays well and allows you time for the things you love. Freelance writing is a great way to make money, which means you can do something you love and still have money in your bank account!

Finding work is always going to be an issue, though. There are times when there are no jobs available or you’re waiting on feedback from clients so it can take a while before any assignments come through. 

This can be frustrating if all of your income relies on these projects coming through as one project could bring in enough money to pay your bills for several months.

Once you get started though, it won’t be long until more work starts rolling in! You might even find yourself getting offers without asking because people recognize your name after seeing some of your previous work online (and if they don’t recognize it yet then give them something new).
