How To Write A Great Client Review On Upwork (11 Tips)

Have you ever wondered how to write a great client review on Upwork? If so, my friend, you’ve come to the right place. In this article, we’ll walk through all of the steps involved in writing an effective review   including what makes a good review great!

1. Put Your Best Foot Forward In The First Sentence Of Your Review

Our first piece of advice is to address the client in the first sentence. You have just a few seconds to make a good impression, so you’re going to want to make sure your first sentence is concise and specific.

The goal here is not only to catch their attention but also to summarize the review in one sentence. If you can do both of these things, it will be much easier for them to read through your review and find out what they want (in this case, feedback from other freelancers) before they move on.

You can also include some information about yourself by mentioning what type of projects you specialize in or where you work as a freelancer. If someone wants help with writing web content for blogs or creating social media posts for clients, then mentioning that might make them more likely give your review more consideration than if all they see was “Client Review” written at the top.

2. Use Details

When you write a review for a client, it’s important to be as detailed as possible. The best reviews include specific details about what you liked and didn’t like about the project, how the project went (both from your perspective and theirs), and if there are things that could have been done differently.

For example: “I really enjoyed working with this developer because they were great at communicating their ideas, which helped us come up with some creative solutions for our product.

I wish we had spent more time discussing the design of our user experience because I know there are better ways we could have solved some UX issues.” Or: “I was really impressed with how quickly my developer got started on this project! They understood exactly what I needed and were able to turn around the first draft in just 2 weeks.”

3. Make It About The Work, Not The Money

If the project was a success, focus on the work. If it wasn’t, make sure to communicate that clearly so you can both learn from the experience. The point is, don’t focus on how much you paid or how much your client should have paid. Instead, talk about what they did right and how they could improve in the future.

4. Focus On The Positive, Unless There’s A Problem To Work Out

You should focus on the positive unless there’s a problem to work out. You want to be sure that you’re giving your client an opportunity to improve their service or product in the future. If you only focus on the negative, they may not respond well (or at all).

If you did find something useful and inspiring in their work, then by all means mention it! This can help them see where they excel and what makes them stand out from other freelancers. In fact, there are many successful clients on Upwork who base their business models entirely around this concept of helping others succeed and we’re happy you found one!

5. Be Specific With Your Praise

When you’re writing a review, it’s important to be as specific as possible. Don’t just say “Great work!” Instead, give examples of what you liked about their work so that other potential clients can see how good the freelancer is.

For example:

If I hired a writer to write an article for my blog and they wrote 3 articles for me (and I paid them $300), then I would mention that in my review. That way people know how much time they spent working on the project and how much money they made off of it.

If you don’t have any numbers or figures in mind when writing your reviews, then you might want to wait until after hiring someone before writing your reviews because this may help determine some things about their performance such as whether or not they did what sounded like it would take less time than other tasks but actually took longer than expected.”

6. Don’t Be Too Personal

  • Don’t mention personal details. Personal information, such as your age, gender and location is unnecessary for a client review.
  • Don’t mention personal feelings. Your emotions regarding the work should not be included in this review unless they were specifically requested by the client (e.g., if they asked you to describe how they made you feel).
  • Don’t mention personal experiences. Unless there was something unique about what happened during your relationship with this particular project manager, it’s best to keep these kinds of details out of your review since they aren’t relevant to other clients or potential projects seeking freelancers like yourself!
  • Don’t mention personal beliefs or preferences: This includes religious views & political affiliations – keep those out of client reviews so as not to offend anyone who might read them!

7. Take The Time To Write And Rewrite Your Drafts

Although many people have the idea that writing is something you do quickly and then move on to the next task, this isn’t true. In fact, you need to spend time crafting each sentence carefully so that it does what you want it to do.

Take some time with your draft before submitting it for review by an editor or friend (if you’re lucky enough to know someone who can help). Read through the whole thing again, making sure there are no typos or grammatical errors in any of your sentences and that they all flow together nicely. You want this piece of writing to be as perfect as possible!

8. Don’t Cover All Your Bases At Once

Don’t cover all your bases at once.

  • Don’t go overboard with praise.
  • Don’t go overboard with criticism.
  • Don’t go overboard with compliments (unless they’re really, really deserved).
  • Don’t go overboard with complaints (if you’re going to raise a concern, do it diplomatically).

9. Use Upwork’s Template For Reviews

Upwork provides a template that you can use to write your client review. It is an excellent resource and will ensure that you cover all the points in the review process.

You can also use it to make sure you don’t miss anything or forget anything important. The Upwork template also contains a section for thanking your clients, which is a nice touch.

10. Structure Your Reviews Like Stories

If you’re going to write reviews, you should think of them as stories.

This is an important idea a good review can be structured like a book or movie review. You start by giving a plot summary, then talk about the main points at length, and finally wrap up with a conclusion (or “terminate your analysis” if you’re feeling fancy).

One reason why this structure is so effective is that it forces you to focus on the important details in each client’s profile and work samples.

Since there is no word count limits on reviews, it’s easy to get off track by getting lost in tangential details or rambling too long on one topic. By making sure that every part of your review contributes directly toward those three main points and keeping each section short enough that even someone with ADD will want to read them all you make sure that nothing gets lost in translation!

11. Stay Professional And Professionalism Counts – Especially When It’s Negative

You’re not going to write a great client review if you rush through it and don’t take the time to make sure everything is spelled correctly and consistently throughout your document. It’s also important that you use the same format of writing across all documents so that they will be easy for clients who are looking for writers on Upwork (or indeed any freelance platform) to read your profile with speed and ease.
