  • A job search engine, such as LinkedIn or Indeed

You could also use social media sites like Facebook and Twitter to find jobs. If there’s a local business that you want to work for and live in the area, reach out directly through their website or social media accounts.

Find opportunities through online classifieds such as Craigslist just make sure they’re legitimate! Also check schools in your area that offer similar programs if they don’t have anything listed yet (but definitely apply).

Ask Questions

As you can see, there are a lot of questions to ask.

Ask questions to get a better understanding of the job: What does my day look like? Who will I be working with? What specific skills do I need for this job?

Ask questions to get a better understanding of the company and culture: What’s your mission statement? How do you define success within this organization? How would you describe your corporate culture in one word or phrase?

Ask questions to get a better understanding of the position: Is there anything else that needs explaining about this job that wasn’t mentioned in the description or on my application form, before I sign up for an interview (which we’ll discuss later)?

Are there any other opportunities for growth at XYZ Corp., such as leadership training workshops?

Or shadowing opportunities with high-ranking executives at other branches across town or even outside our city limits (if applicable)? If so, who should I contact about getting started ASAP!

Get Comfortable With Yourself

Before you can be successful in a Resident Assistant position, it’s important to get comfortable with yourself. You need to feel confident and comfortable in your skin. You have to be open and friendly, helpful, honest and good at communicating.

It’s also important that you are a good listener who can solve problems effectively. In addition to those skills.

Being able to lead others is key when working as a Resident Assistant because the job requires making decisions on behalf of those whom you live with for several months during the school year.

Being an RA is not easy work by any means but being yourself will make it much easier!

Be Honest

Be honest. That’s the most important thing you can do if you want to land a R.A. position.

You need to be honest about your skills, experience and interests. Don’t lie about being good at something when you aren’t (and don’t pretend that there is nothing that you don’t know).

If someone asks a question that makes you feel uncomfortable, answer it honestly and say why it’s an uncomfortable question for you (I’m sorry, I’m not comfortable talking about my exes). There is no reason to lie; these people will see through it anyway!

The same goes for weaknesses: If there are things about yourself or your life experience that hinder your ability to perform certain tasks.

Or take on certain responsibilities as an R.A., be honest about them when asked by the employer (and remember: just because someone asks doesn’t mean they’re going to judge!).

Be A Good Team Player

As a resident assistant, you’re going to be working with people who have different opinions and personalities than you. Because of this, it’s important to be a good team player and able to work well with others.

You’ll need to listen carefully, communicate clearly, solve problems quickly and efficiently, lead by example and follow the rules.

Be Knowledgeable

If you know the area, you will be able to help your residents with their questions. This will make them feel more comfortable and make the job of being a RA much easier.

You can also assume that if they have a question, other residents may have similar questions and would appreciate hearing about it from someone knowledgeable in the area.

It’s also important to remain up-to-date with what is going on around campus. This includes knowing about:

  • Local amenities (restaurants, grocery stores, bars)
  • Local events (concerts, sporting events) – especially if there are any upcoming ones
  • Local activities (theater productions) – especially if there are any upcoming ones

Be Dedicated

Dedication is an important part of any job, and it’s especially true for RAs. The dedication shows that you’re committed to the position and willing to go the extra mile for your residents.

As a resident assistant, you’ll be responsible for everything from keeping the community clean and organized, to ensuring that all of your residents are safe and happy. If you take pride in your work (and who doesn’t?), then dedication will come naturally.

Be Organized

Being organized is more than just a cliche. It’s a necessity if you want to land your dream job as Resident Assistant (RA). RA’s are the eyes and ears of their dorms, so they need to keep up with everything that goes on there.

If you’re disorganized, it will be harder for you to know what the students are doing and who is doing it.

You’ll also have trouble keeping track of when things need to be done by, because if something isn’t filed away properly or written down in your notebook, then how will you remember?

So how do we become organized? Well first off: stop being lazy! Organization requires some effort on our part but don’t worry; there are plenty of ways we can make this process easier on ourselves.

For example: maybe instead of writing down every single assignment on one piece of paper (or even worse a list), try using Excel instead so all your assignments stay neatly categorized into different columns.

Or if making spreadsheets sounds too complicated, try using Google Calendar instead; this makes organizing appointments super easy!

Many people who aren’t very organized think they aren’t good at managing their time because they feel overwhelmed by all the tasks before them at once but this couldn’t be farther from reality!

The key here lies in understanding which activities take priority over others so that each day has its own set agenda rather than simply being filled with random tasks at random times throughout each day.”

Stay Open-Minded And Flexible

You’ll be an RA for a few years, and there will be plenty of opportunities to make mistakes. When that happens, don’t get discouraged; instead, use the experience as a learning opportunity. You can learn from your mistakes and grow as a person while you’re still in college.

Keep an open mind when it comes to learning new things. This can take many forms: being flexible about taking on additional responsibilities or making sacrifices for the good of the residents you serve;

Take risks by trying something new, or even taking a chance on something based solely on your gut instinct (or your spidey senses). Your willingness to learn is key not only during the application process but also throughout your entire career as an RA!

Go Above And Beyond The Job Description

There’s a lot to do and remember in your new role as an RA, but there are also plenty of opportunities for you to show your Residential Life team what you’re made of.

You’ll have the opportunity to make a difference, so take it! Don’t be afraid to ask questions and share ideas with your team members they know what they’re doing, but they might not have thought about everything the same way that you did.

When working on projects, try thinking outside the box by considering different solutions than those presented by others. If possible, take on more responsibility than is required of you so that when called upon later on in your career, no one will question whether or not you can handle it.
